TOP DIAMOND TRENDS OF 2022

Diamonds may be forever, but they are no exceptions when it comes to trends. We see different diamond styles come in and out of fashion every year. Whether it’s a preference for more traditional cuts or a move towards a specific time period of jewelry designs, diamond tastes are constantly shifting and evolving.

SO WHAT ARE THE TOP DIAMOND TRENDS OF 2022?

 1. ROUND DIAMONDS

The top diamond trend this year comes as no surprise: the classic round diamond. Year after year, the round reigns supreme. This is thanks to its timeless shape and unparalleled brilliance.
The bottom line is this: you simply cannot go wrong with a round diamond. It maintains it’s popularity and we do not see that changing any time soon.

DON'T SACRIFICE WHEN IT COMES TO CUT

The beauty of the round cut diamond lies in the mathematical precision of the cuts, maximizing light and brilliance through the 58 facets. This is one of the factors that makes the round cut the most expensive diamond cut. We recommend choosing a round stone with the highest cut grades, that is ideal or very good. For symmetry and polish, look for grades ideal, excellent and very good. Then it is left up to your own budget and personal preference as to which style or setting you prefer or that your bride will love. There are a number of ways you can make a lower color grade diamond look amazing in a round cut diamond engagement ring, but if you sacrifice on cut, the ring will sparkle less.

2. OVAL DIAMONDS

The oval shaped diamond has grown to be the most popular choice of this year. We have found that couples love an oval shaped engagement ring because of its elegant and smooth cut. This popular shape encompasses rounded edges combined with an elongated style that offers a timeless yet unique look for engagement rings. Oval shaped rings can be found in both narrow or wide cuts, it just depends on your preference! It’s a great choice if you are searching for a modern and trendy shaped engagement ring.

WHY OVAL?

Oval is considered a “fancy” shape, the elongated design makes it appear larger than other shapes of the same carat weight.

The slender body of the oval diamond creates a beautiful, elongated look. It often makes the hand and fingers appear slimmer. The diamond’s shape has no sharp corners, so it’s less prone to chipping.
If you enjoy a rounded design, but want a stone with more character, an oval diamond makes a stunning choice. In addition, oval diamonds are almost always priced lower than round brilliants.

HISTORY OF THE OVAL CUT DIAMOND

Oval shaped diamonds have been popular for centuries. The earliest oval diamonds date back to the 1300s, though they aren’t described by name in literature until the 1800s.
According to Rapaport, in the early 1960’s, a Russian diamond cutter named Lazare Kaplan perfected the oval cut process. He had a knack for turning undesirable rough stones into gorgeous diamonds. His technique significantly improved the brilliance of the oval diamond. The process that Kaplan pioneered is what diamond cutters use to create oval cut stones today.
